"A Tale of Two Sisters" vs "The Uninvited"

Ini adalah pertama kalinya aku membahas film di blog aku, sebenarnya ada banyak film yg ingin aku bahas, tapi sepertinya aku akan mulai dari sini lebih dahulu. Sebelum aku bahas filmnya, aku ingin sedikit bercerita. Jadi, aku sangat suka film, tapi aku paling sering nonton yang bergenre horor dan thriller. Nah, di sini aku akan membahas film yang beberapa waktu lalu sedang ramai dibicarakan di media sosial berlogo burung biru, banyak yang menyarankan film ini karena memiliki ending yang plot twist!  

This is the first time I'm discussing film on my blog, actually there are many films that I want to discuss, but I think I'll start from here first. Before I talk about the film, I want to tell you a little story. So, I really like movies, but I mostly watch horror and thriller genres. Well, here I will discuss a film that some time ago was busy talking about on social media with the blue bird logo, many have suggested this film because it has a plot twist ending!

Setelah penasaran, akhirnya aku menonton film ini, ternyata endingnya memang mengejutkan. Apa itu filmnya? 

After being curious, I finally watched this film, it turned out to be a shocking ending. What's the film?

Film ini menceritakan tentang Anna (Emily Browning) yang baru saja keluar dari rumah sakit jiwa, ia bersama kakaknya Alex (Arielle Kebbel) mencurigai Rachel (Elizabeth Banks) yang merupakan ibu tirinya adalah pembunuh ibu kandungnya. Hari demi hari, Anna dan kakaknya terus berusaha mengungkap latar belakang dan kejahatan Rachel, satu per satu fakta terungkap dan mereka semakin yakin bahwa pemunuh ibu kandung mereka merupakan ibu tirinya yang dulunya merupakan perawat ibu kandungnya. 

This film tells the story of Anna (Emily Browning) who has just been released from a mental hospital, she and her sister Alex (Arielle Kebbel) suspect Rachel (Elizabeth Banks) who is her stepmother is the murderer of her biological mother. Day by day, Anna and her sister continue to try to uncover Rachel's background and badness, one by one the facts are revealed and they are increasingly convinced that the killer of their biological mother is her stepmother who used to be her birth mother's nurse.

Setelah aku menonton film ini, aku kembali searching mengenai film ini. Ternyata, aku baru saja menonton film A Tale of Two Sisters versi Barat. Yap, film ini merupakan adaptasi dari film Korea Selatan yang berjudul A Tale of Two Sisters dan lebih dulu rilis pada tanggal 13 Juni 2003. Karena penasaran, akhirnya aku juga menonton A Tale of Two Sisters. Bagaimana filmnya?

After I watched this film, I'm searching about this film again. As it turned out, I had just watched the Western version of "A Tale of Two Sisters.". Yup, this film is an adaptation of a South Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters and was first released on June 13, 2003. Because of curiousity, finally I watched A Tale of Two Sisters. How's the film?

Film ini menceritakan tentang Bae Soo-mi (Lim Soo-jung) dan Bae Soo-yeon (Moon Geun-young) yang baru saja keluar dari rumah sakit jiwa. Ketika mereka baru saja memasuki rumah, mereka bertemu dengan ibu tirinya Heo Eun-joo (Yum Jung-ah), tetapi Bae Soo-mi tidak menyukai ibu tirinya dan Bae Soo-yeon selalu menunjukkan ekspresi takut ketika bertemu dengan ibu tirinya. Beberapa saat kemudian, Bae Soo-mi menyadari bahwa Bae Soo-yeon disakiti oleh ibu tirinya, ia semakin tidak menyukai ibu tirinya dan berusaha untuk mengungkap kejahatan ibu tirinya.

This film tells the story of  Bae Soo-mi (Lim Soo-jung) and Bae Soo-yeon (Moon Geun-young) who have just been released from a mental hospital. When they just entered the house, they met their stepmother Heo Eun-joo (Yum Jung-ah), but Bae Soo-mi does not like her stepmother and Bae Soo-yeon always shows scared expression when she met her stepmother. A few moments later, Bae Soo-mi realized that Bae Soo-yeon was hurted by their stepmother, it makes her more hate her stepmother and try to uncover the stepmother's badness.

 

A Tale of Two Sisters sendiri merupakan adaptasi dari cerita rakyat yang telah ada sejak dinasti Joseon, yaitu "Jang-hwa dan Hong-ryeon". 

 

A Tale of Two Sisters itself is an adaptation from folklore that has existed since the Joseon dynasty, namely "Jang-hwa and Hong-ryeon".

Meskipun The Uninvited merupakan adaptasi dari A Tale of Two Sisters, kedua film ini memiliki beberapa perbedaan, yaitu:

 

Although The Uninvited is an adaptation from A Tale of Two Sisters, both of this film have several difference, that is:

• Latar 

Dalam film A Tale of Two Sisters berlatar rumah yang menjadi tempat tinggal Bae Soo-mi dan Bae Soo-yeon tinggal. Nuansa gelap terutama saat malam hari dan rumah yang terbuat dari kayu sangat mendukung suasana mencekam dalam film ini. Berbeda dengan The Uninvited, The Uninvited berlatarkan rumah yang berada di dekat danau. Menurutku, A Tale of Two Sisters lebih tampak mencekam dibandingkan The Uninvited jika dilihat dari segi latar.  

•  Background

In the film A Tale of Two Sisters, Bae Soo-mi and Bae Soo-yeon live in the house. The dark nuances, especially at night and the houses made of wood, really support the tense atmosphere in this film. Unlike The Uninvited, The Uninvited is set in a house near a lake.

• Sosok Saudari dari Pemeran Utama

Dalam film  A Tale of Two Sisters, sosok saudari dari Bae Soo-mi, yaitu Bae Soo-yeon menjadi alasan Bae Soo-mi semakin tidak menyukai ibu tirinya karena ibu tirinya sering menyiksa Bae Soo-yeon sementara Bae Soo-yeon tidak memiliki keberanian untuk melawan. Sedangkan dalam film The Uninvited, sosok saudari dari Anna, yaitu Alex turut membantu Anna untuk mengungkap kejahatan ibu tirinya dan merencakanan berbagai macam strategi.

• The Sister Figure of the Main Cast

In the film A Tale of Two Sisters, the sister figure of Bae Soo-mi, namely Bae Soo-yeon is the reason Bae Soo-mi dislikes her stepmother because her stepmother often tortures Bae Soo-yeon while Bae Soo-yeon does not have the courage to oppose. Meanwhile, in The Uninvited, Anna's sister, Alex, helps Anna to uncover her stepmother's badness and plan various strategies.

• Sosok Ibu Tiri

The Uninvited menceritakan sosok ibu tiri yang berusaha untuk mencuri perhatian anak-anak tirinya dan diduga pernah melakukan tindakan kriminal. Sementara itu, dalam film A Tale of Two Sisters menceritakan sosok ibu tiri yang berusaha terlihat hangat, tetapi diabaikan oleh Bae Soo-mi sehingga sang ibu tiri berubah menjadi acuh dan sering menyakiti Bae Soo-yeon. 

• The Stepmother Figure 

The Uninvited tells the story of a stepmother who tries to steal the attention of her stepchildren and is suspected of having committed a crime. Meanwhile, in the film A Tale of Two Sisters, it tells the story of a stepmother who tries to look warm, but is ignored by Bae Soo-mi so that the stepmother becomes indifferent and often hurts Bae Soo-yeon.

• Penyebab Kematian Ibu Kandung

Meskipun film A Tale of Two Sisters dan The Uninvited sama-sama menceritakan ibu kandung yang telah tewas, tetapi penyebabnya diceritakan sangat berbeda dari kedua film ini.

• The Cause of Biological Mother Death

Although the films A Tale of Two Sisters and The Uninvited both tell of a biological mother who has died, the cause is told very differently from these two films.

• Cerita Horor

Dalam film The Uninvited sering kali memunculkan penampakan yang menyeramkan dan mengejutkan, sementara dalam film A Tale of Two Sisters tidak begitu banyak.

• The Horror Story

In the film The Uninvited mostly shows spooky and surprising sightings, while in the film A Tale of Two Sisters not so much.

Berdasarkan dari perbedaan yang telah aku sebutkan tadi, menurutku film The Uninvited lebih menyeramkan daripada A Tale of Two Sisters. Meskipun dari segi latar tidak begitu mendukung cerita seramnya, tetapi dari segi sosok ibu tiri yang diceritakan, cerita tambahan, serta ending dalam film The Uninvited sangat mendukung suasana horor dan misteri dari film ini. 

 

Based od the difference that I mentioned earlier, in my opinion The Uninvited is scarier than A Tale of Two Sister. Although based on background is not so support the scary story, but the stepmother figure that is told, additional stories, and the ending in The Uninvited movie really supports the horror and mystery atmosphere of this film.
